I am a freshman taking Alg 2 H this semester. I cannot go into Analysis next semester but what about AP Stats?
I want to be the best at math that I can be. I am taking ALG 2 Honors in the fall semester of 9th grade. I was hoping to double up and take Analysis in the spring semester, however, the class is full. My only other option besides NOT taking math is to take AP Statistics. Would this be a good idea or is this too difficult of a math course for a freshman like me to take.
By the way, in honors algebra 2, I have a mid to high B which believe it or not, is one of the higher grades in the class.
Best answer will be given…Need Help….
I too wished to be the best in math that I could possibly be. So, I will tell you how my math career went in high school before I tell you what I think you should do…
I took H. Geometry in eigth, honors Alg.2 in ninth, took Trig/Math Analysis over the summer at a community college, took AP Calculus BC in tenth, and AP Statistics in eleventh. For my twelth grade year I didn’t take any math classes at my high school because I had taken them all with A’s in each and with 5′s on the AP exams. So, I took linear algebra in twelth at the community college. It’s this calculus based algebraic theorems basically. I think in the 50 years of my high school, no one came close to doing some of the things I did, but, most of the student body was surprised in hearing that the person who won the “Class Clown” Senior Superlative was also college oriented.
Finish taking Algebra 2, it’s one of the more important classes you will need in your mathematic career. Do not jump into an AP math class mid-way through the semester, as the point of the AP class is to pass the AP exam so that you may get college credit. Instead, take Trig over the summer, or Analysis, whatever you call it. If not, then simply take Trig next year as a sophomore. Then, take either AP Calculus as a Junior and then AP stat as a senior, or switch them around if you wish.
AP Stat is very easy. It’s all numbers, if you can perform math functions in your head, and if you find it easy to memorize formulas, then this class will be a bore, as it was for me. I’m sure that if you are taking honors algebra 2 as a freshman that this class will be no problem for you, but it’s just that the AP Exam wil be difficult for anybody if they are not in the class from the beginning.
Or, I think to better answer your question, why not take a math class at your local community college? Why not trig? That way, you are yet another year ahead in everything…
Hope I helped…if you have any other questions feel free to e-mail me…but first give me my ten points!
